Mission
Our food pantry’s mission is to directly serve local residents who suffer from hunger and food insecurity within a specified area.
Greater St. John Baptist Church food pantry targets primarily hunger relief efforts with nutrition information and healthy eating opportunities for low income individuals and families (residents) living in zip codes 35211 and 35221. Community food pantries and soup kitchens play a vital role in reducing food insecurity. We will offer our residents healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean proteins to ensure a balanced diet that helps cure starvation within our community, homeless population; latch key kids, and low-income families.
Matthew 25:35
Nearly 70 percent (88,000) of Birmingham residents are living in areas that have been designated as a “food desert”, and almost all of the residents are Black or Latino decent. The term “food desert” is defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a community that meets any of a number of criteria that limit residents’ access to healthy food. Our desire as a church is to start targeting hunger within our immediate community and neighborhood.

We are open each 4th Saturday of the month from 9am – 12noon. Must show proof of residency in zip-codes 35211 and 35221 (i.e. state-issued ID, recent bill, rental agreement etc.)
